“Sing For Our Heroes” Campaign Raised $200,390 to Support Front Line Healthcare Workers

SBTN and Rise’s campaign has raised $200,390 to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers in the United States. These efforts were a culmination of an eight hour living room concert that featured more than 70 Vietnamese-American performing artists, airing nationwide on SBTN and live streamed on YouTube and Facebook.

The statistics are stark in the United States. With more than 1.5 million infected and 90,000 deaths due to Covid-19, the need to protect front line healthcare workers continues. All funds raised will go towards the procurement and distribution of surgical masks, KN95 masks, gloves and face shields for healthcare centers, many in hot spots around the country.

Even in the face of ongoing economic difficulties, the kindness and solidarity of the Vietnamese community have made it possible for the campaign to quickly procure PPE for those in need. The campaign has purchased 150,000 surgical masks, 40,000 KN95 masks, 150,000 medical gloves, and 2,000 face shields. During the first round of distribution, we were able to help the following hospitals:

- Elmhurst Hospital Center, New York
- Visiting Nurse Service of New York, New York
- Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, New York
- Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Massachusetts
- MedStar Washington Hospital Center, District of Columbia
- Veterans Affairs Hospital, Texas
- Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, California
- Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, California
- Pacey Medical Group, California
- Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, California
- UCLA Harbor Medical Center, California
- Valley Presbyterian Hospital, California

“We are in one of the hardest hit areas in Southern California,” said Dr. Kristine Pham of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles. “The Vietnamese American community has given us hope and a sense of protection.” Dr. Pham has received 10,000 surgical masks and 4,000 KN95 masks from this campaign.

The success of the campaign was only made possible by the selfless contribution of more than 70 artists and presenters, volunteers, technical staff, the SBTN audience, and Vietnamese people everywhere. SBTN and Rise would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the many Vietnamese doctors and nurses who participated in the televised program, often recording after long hours serving their patients.

We also extol the great efforts of the many medical personnel who have served and continue to serve on the front line.

SBTN and Rise will continue to deliver PPE in a second round of distribution. More information can be found at www.sbtn.tv and www.vietnamrise.org.
